About US Housing Data
US Housing Data is an independent, data-driven resource that provides free housing market information for every U.S. state and county. Our goal is simple: make authoritative housing data accessible, understandable, and useful for homebuyers, renters, researchers, and curious citizens.
What We Cover
We publish county-level and state-level housing metrics for all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia, covering more than 3,100 counties:
- Median Home Value — the midpoint of all owner-occupied housing values
- Median Gross Rent — the midpoint of monthly rental costs, including utilities
- Owner Occupancy Rate — the percentage of occupied units that are owner-occupied
- Price-to-Rent Ratio — a key indicator of whether buying or renting is more favorable
- Historical Price Trends — multi-year price and rent trajectories
- FHFA House Price Index — recent market momentum data
- Local Employment & Wages — county-level jobs and average weekly wages
- Housing Supply — new residential building permits authorized
- Migration Patterns — county-to-county population and income flows
- Mortgage Rates — 30-year and 15-year fixed mortgage rate trends
Data Sources
All data on US Housing Data comes from official, publicly available government sources. We do not generate or estimate housing values ourselves. Each dataset is used under its original license terms.

Our Methodology
We aggregate raw data from these sources and compute derived metrics (such as price-to-rent ratio and year-over-year changes) using transparent, reproducible formulas. We clearly label the vintage (year or quarter) of all data and never claim to provide real-time prices.
Where county-level data is unavailable (for example, FHFA HPI is limited to areas with sufficient mortgage transaction volume), we indicate this explicitly rather than substituting estimates.
Editorial Standards
Some pages include an "Editor's Insight" section that summarizes key patterns in the underlying metrics. These insights are derived directly from rigorous analysis of actual data points to highlight meaningful market trends. They are analytical commentary for informational purposes, not financial or investment advice.
